Dealing with robbers and hijackers If you think that you may be targeted by a robber and/or hijacker If you see that someone has been following you for a few blocks already, you should keep on driving (even drive through a red light at night if you are alone - by law a woman driving alone after midnight is allowed to jump lights) until you find an open space ie. open shop/petrol station, or to the nearest police station. Then jump out of the car and run inside, telling people that you may have been followed. By

If someone is standing outside
your door and tries to talk to you, do not open Let's say one day you open the window too wide while you are driving, and you aren't aware of your surroundings. You stop at a red light, and suddenly someone grabs the sunglasses that you are wearing and runs away. You should keep on driving. Perhaps that person has a friend who is on the other side of your car, waiting for you to jump out so that s/he can drive away with your car. Cause a small accident This point is especially for South Africans - don't buy anything on the road. The person could have a gun underneath the goods to force you out of the car. Or they might have an accomplice waiting on the passenger's side, ready to take advantage while your attention is diverted. If someone jumps
into your car suddenly, with a weapon, cause a small accident so that
you grab everybody's attention- the attacker will be too scared and run
away and people will notice that you may have been hijacked. The government has put out
a statement mentioning the things you should do in the event of a hijack:
