Be aware of your surroundings Be aware of your surroundings when you get in and out of your car. Glance at the mirrors regularly. Take your car key out before you get to your car door. This will prevent a wannabe thief from grabbing your key and driving off. Once you're inside the car immediately use your arm to lock the door. Start the car before you put on the seatbelt, so you can jump out the car immediately if anything happens. Don't put your handbag on the seat opposite you. This gives a would-be thief an easy target.
