Fanbelt breaks

The fanbelt is what keeps a car cool, so if it breaks, the car will overheat and won't be able to start.

Temporary solution: Replace it with a stocking.

This requires that you have some knowledge of what's under your bonnet, and specifically where the engine pulley, water pump pulley and alternator are, because that's what the fanbelt winds through. Not all cars have fanbelts, though; some have electrical fans. In that case, you would have to get towed.

Overheating will switch the car off.

So now, nobody cares about the fanbelt, although it is getting boiling hot - it snaps, and the car switches off. This is not only a broken fanbelt, but overheating as well.

Solution:
1. Open bonnet and let the engine cool down.
2. Check if you have enough oil (the dipstick has a mark on it that tells you.
3. Keep water topped up (by the plastic part, not the radiator cap).

In other words, do you basic checks before you drive.
