Pushstart

If your manual car has a dead battery. (i.e.: you turn the key and the car chugs)

NB:

  • This will only work if your car is a manual, not if it's an automatic.
  • If the battery light is on, don't switch the car off.
  • Check whether the fanbelt is still whole.

If your manual car has a dead battery

1. Ignition on.
2. Put gear in neutral.
3. Get other people to push the car from behind.
4. As the car rolls, (put the clutch in) then into 2nd gear.
5. Let the clutch out when it gains some speed. You must let the clutch out gradually - not too fast, but not too slow either. This is what will give it the jerk so it'll start.
6. Off you go! Or, if you must pick up the people who pushed the car, brake and put it in neutral. Then rev the car.
